Women in art in the 21st century
An innovative European art climate can only emerge if there is a better balance between female and male artists. Contemporary art about everyday, recognizable, human themes, reflecting life. Visual artist Carolina Wajon (1959) first studied psychology, then became a teacher of drawing and painting, made her own teaching method, taught it for 25 years. She grew artistically into an autonomous visual artist. As a woman, she became a mother and grandmother. Her visual work is a journey of discovery to gain more insight into what is really important in life. She uses themes that can appeal to everyone. Themes that are so obvious that we often overlook their beauty in the hectic pace of today's Western society. Her art can make us rediscover ourselves.
Her art focuses on common themes, in which we as humans can recognize each other. Non-elitist, non-commercial, accessible art. Art that can connect in times of polarization. Painting, which is exhibited in a lively and interactive way. The universal, classic audio route is to experience the artworks in silence. Carolina Wajon was one of the co-founders of the Werkvereniging Spade Ateliers in 2004. An initiative to keep studio space affordable, so that creative space in the city of Nijmegen would not end up too much in the hands of commerce.
